These guys just do it right. They listen when you order (big props for that), they are always friendly and welcoming, and the food is consistently good. The bun is a nice texture, the burger is cooked correctly and is nice and juicy, and they put on the precise condiments you ask for. Snow Dogs fry and season their fries just how you want them. It’s not fancy – nor should it be. It has good food and fast and friendly service. Snow Dogs pretty much rocks and has the best burger in Paonia.

I love Delicious Orchards. It’s a beautiful setting – always very lively – and they are very nice people. The consistency of the food can sometimes leave something to be desired. I’ve had, and will have again, really great burgers here. They use local meat and nice Hawaiian buns, but the wait time is long and the burger is sometimes over or undercooked. Fries are good but a little under-seasoned. All in all, I like this place and will keep going back.
The Living Farm Café
120 Grand Ave, Paonia, CO 81428
The Living Farm’s namesake is an actual farm located just a few miles outside of Paonia. They do their best to be as “farm to table as possible,” sourcing produce from their own farm and serving local wines and such. This was the most expensive burger in my burger hunt, and it looked hand pressed, which I absolutely love. It was cooked nicely, but the presentation was lacking. The wait for food here was lengthy, as always. I would get a burger here again but would definitely call and order ahead of time.
203 Grand Ave, Paonia, CO 81428
This place has been a local institution for, well, as long as I can remember (and I’m dating back to 1980). A while back it changed owners and ever since has had mixed reviews. The service is friendly, but the food is somewhat lacking. I’ve had a burger here two times. Once they were busy, and once they were not. The outcome was pretty much night and day. I would go back but assuredly when they are slow so that I know my order is being paid attention to. They do hand cut fries, which is cool.
Hightower Trading Post and Café
201 Grand Ave, Paonia, CO 81428
Very well known for their strudel, the Hightower Café appears to do good business and always has diners inside and sitting out front. My primary gripe with this place is that it smells like grease. I’ve had one burger here. I might go back, but I’d probably order something else next time. The burger and the fries were dark and overdone. I would definitely order some strudel, maybe even a nice trout dinner, but if I were to take another shot at a burger I might ask to go back and supervise.
