Since 1996, Steamworks Brewing Co. in the heart of Durango has been brewing up some of Colorado’s best beer. It has hauled in 14 Great American Beer Fest awards, 4 World Beer Cup awards, and accolades in publications across the country. Today, after over two decades of making amazing craft brews, Steamworks is an integral part of Durango’s fabric.
And it’s part of Nomad Colorado’s fabric, as well. In 2003, I thru-hiked the Colorado Trail with my partner, Liz. After 470 miles of epic wilderness adventure – that included just one shower and plenty of bumps, scrapes, and bruises – we were ravenous. We came screaming down Kennebec Pass hoping to quench our thirst and satiate our hunger. Steamworks came up big! We visit Steamworks every chance we get when we’re in the Four Corners Region.
Beverages like the Colorado Kolsch, Third Eye P.A., and Conductor have become household beers in Colorado. My favorite, the Prescribed Burn, is a light German ale conditioned with Habañero, Poblano, and Hatch Green Chiles. And there are so many more delicious brews to enjoy.
Healthy salads, delicious pizzas, spicy Southwestern-style dishes, and vegetarian & gluten-free offerings deliver something for everyone who’s hungry. I can’t leave the place without devouring a Rico Burger and fries – healthy, I know!
Looking for a place to catch the game or entertain the kids? Steamworks Brewing Co. is perfect for that too. It has numerous indoor and outdoor seating areas. You can sit out on the back porch and enjoy one of Colorado’s many sunny summer days. Or you can cram into the bar to watch college football (CU must win!) or your favorite NFL team (go Broncos!). There are plenty of family-friendly seating areas throughout.
