Smokin Yard’s BBQ in Idaho Springs

Smokin Yard's BBQ Pig

Stuck in the I-70 rat race west of Denver trying to get back from a day on the slopes? Tired of your kids screaming from the back seat while you inch along in a vehicular crawl towards home or DIA? Take a load off at one of the yummiest barbeque spots in Colorado. Smokin Yard’s BBQ has been a favorite of road warriors traveling through Idaho Springs since it first opened in 2008.

There’s just something about a place that welcomes you at its main entrance with a statue of a pig in a chef’s hat that’s puffing down a cigar. It almost guarantees a bomber experience! And then you walk through the main entrance and know you’re in meat-lovers paradise.

Smokin Yard’s BBQ has an original menu that includes tasty eats like smoked Carolina pulled pork sandwiches, chopped beef brisket, and St. Louis style baby back pork ribs. In addition to appealing smoked chicken and meats available by the pound, you can savor a catfish po’boy or chicken fried steak. The place is known for its three signature sauces:

“Cow Tippin Sweet, Spicy Chipotle, and Swine Bitin’ Bold.”

And don’t forget about Smokin Yard’s delicious sides – collard greens, fried pickles, mac & cheese, chipotle-mashed sweet potatoes, and fried okra. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! They have a great beer list and bar, to boot. You can relish a Montucky Cold Snack, gin & tonic, or brew from Crazy Mountain.

Now doesn’t all that sound so much better than sitting in I-70 traffic?
