Roasted Espresso and Subs Serves Up a Buzz

Roasted Espresso

Located south of Main Street in downtown Grand Junction, Roasted Espresso and Subs may often be overlooked. A hole-in-the-wall coffee shop, it’s on the corner of 5th Street and Colorado Avenue. They feature an extensive coffee menu, with a few original beverages that are quite popular among their regular customers. If you want to get a decent buzz going, try their Rocket Fuel, or for extra protein, their Monkey Mocha with bananas, espresso and protein powder. Their coffee is high quality and locally roasted–there’s nothing like it in town. They also serve breakfast and lunch, with a variety of sandwiches, subs, wraps and salads, and are vegetarian and vegan friendly.

Happy hour is between 2 and 4 PM with half-priced drinks, which brings a lot of traffic. Mornings are relatively quiet in comparison with many regulars who will sit for hours talking or reading books and newspapers. With an excellent view of Colorado National Monument, a cool autumn morning is the best time to sit on the patio and enjoy an espresso.

In the summertime, you may get to enjoy live music on Roasted Espresso’s patio, usually on a Friday or Saturday night. Local shows are promoted extensively, with a venue just across the street. Artwork hangs on every wall. The featured artist changes periodically and is most likely a loyal customer.

Roasted’s staff is incredibly personable, with a bar-like feeling to it.  Being on a first-name basis with any of the baristas is not uncommon. Drink orders are remembered, and tabs are often kept. Much pride is taken in their diverse community of patrons, many of whom meet daily and spend countless hours there. With an impressive cult following, it’s no surprise Roasted Espresso and Subs has been so successful throughout the years and hopefully for many more to come.
