San Juan Skyway (Mount Sneffels)

Eleven of Colorado’s 26 byways are designated by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation as America’s Byways, which gives Colorado more national designations than any other state in the U.S. Colorado’s Scenic and Historic Byways has been around for more than 25 years.

You can see the highest points in the Rocky Mountains on larger-than-life Colorado scenic byways like Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park, on Top of the Rockies past Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive, and on our personal favorite the San Juan Skyway. You can also visit the plains and The Santa Fe Trail Scenic and Historic Byway and Pawnee Pioneer Trail. The Highway of Legends tells stories of American Indians, Spanish explorers, and the infamous frontiersman Kit Carson.
